Keith’s first lessons in hard work weren’t in dispatching. They were in the orchards and fields of Washington state. As a teenager, he picked cherries, carrots, jalapeños, grafted apple trees, and worked at AgriPAC packing potatoes. He also spent time in restaurants and on construction sites, taking whatever jobs he could to support himself after a turbulent childhood in Pasco, Washington, where addiction and incarceration surrounded his family.

Those years gave him more than a paycheck. They gave him perspective. Keith saw that when you’re on the ground, timing and precision matter. If you don’t graft the trees correctly, they won’t take. If you don’t show up for a shift, someone else pays the price. That early exposure to accountability shaped how he would later view logistics.

Baptism by fire in the oil fields

Keith’s first real brush with logistics came in the unforgiving environment of the oil fields in North Dakota and Montana. A gave him a train to a job washing trucks, but he quickly climbed into responsibility as a sand manager. In that role, Keith coordinated truckloads of frac sand to drilling sites where downtime cost companies millions.

It was here that Keith learned how to anticipate problems before they happened. If the sand didn’t arrive, rigs sat idle. If the wrong truck pulled up, entire operations stalled. When Keith transitioned into dispatching produce loads for Crest Logistics, later acquired by Union Pacific, he brought that oil field urgency with him. At Union Pacific, the stakes were just as high — only this time the loads were carrots, jalapeños,  potatoes, apples, cherries and onions moving across the western United States. Produce is just as unforgiving as oil. Every minute of delay cut into profit and put contracts at risk.

Keith moved from dispatcher to senior logistics manager, overseeing multimillion-dollar shipments and training other dispatchers. But what truly set him apart was his service. Customers trusted him so much that they would wait until his shift began before making calls, knowing he was the one who could solve problems others couldn’t.

That trust came from his attention to detail and his ability to stay calm under pressure — skills forged in orchards, oil fields, and years of personal adversity.
